Let’s Talk About Buying or Selling

Whether you’re buying, selling, or simply exploring your options, I’d be happy to hear from you. Email me below, or tap my phone number on your mobile to call.

Hi, I’m Gerry.  Whether you’re ready to make a move or just beginning to wonder what’s possible, I’m glad you’re here.  Buying or selling a home brings plenty of questions, and you deserve straight answers, a plan that fits your situation, and someone who will take the time to guide you through every step.

My experience in masonry and construction spans more than 30 years, beginning alongside my father in Ireland and including custom stonework on luxury homes from Hillsborough to Carmel.  Today, as a REALTOR® with Compass, I bring that same builder’s eye and straightforward approach to helping buyers and sellers make sound decisions about one of the biggest moves of their lives.

When I walk through a property, I notice the craftsmanship, the condition, and the details that shape how buyers respond.  For sellers, that means an honest conversation about which improvements are worth making, which aren’t, and how to present the home at its best.  With a background in accounting and years of running my own business, I weigh every recommendation against cost, time and likely return.  I combine that perspective with local market research, a tailored marketing plan, and steady guidance from the first conversation to the closing table.

From Galway to the Bay Area

You may hear a bit of Galway in my voice. I grew up on the west coast of Ireland, where my father, a master stonemason, first introduced me to the trade, and I worked alongside him before beginning a formal four-year brick and stone masonry apprenticeship in Galway in 1988.

I moved to Boston in 1990, returned to Ireland to complete my apprenticeship, and was offered a masonry position in San Jose.  I arrived in California on Sunday, March 21st, 1993, and was on a construction site the following morning.  That pretty much sums up my approach to everything I do.

Soon after, I joined the United States Army Reserve as a way of giving back to the country that welcomed me and gave me the opportunity to build a life here.  I’m proud to have served.  After completing my training, I returned to my employer and was promoted to foreman, and from 1994 to 1996 I studied accounting at Heald Business College while working full time.

In 1997, I founded Artisan Masonry, specializing in custom stonework for luxury homes throughout Santa Clara, San Mateo and Monterey Counties.  I deliberately kept the company small so I could stay closely involved in every project and uphold the standards of craftsmanship I learned from my father and my apprenticeship instructors.

In 2010, a car accident left me with a lasting neck injury and prompted me to consider a career in real estate.  I first considered the mortgage side of the business, but the agent who had helped me buy my own home nine years earlier encouraged me to get my real estate license.  It was the right call, and I’ve brought everything the trade taught me into this work.

A Practical Approach to Real Estate

People come to me at different stages.  You might be preparing a home for sale, weighing whether selling as-is makes more sense, or deciding what to change after a listing expired.  You might be handling the sale of a loved one’s home through probate, planning to downsize, or looking for a larger home as your needs change.  If you’re buying, you may be relocating to the Bay Area or putting down roots here for the first time.  Whatever brings you to me, I’ll listen to your goals and help you build a strategy that fits your situation.

You can expect a direct answer from me, even when it would be easier to tell you what you want to hear.  I’ll do the homework, explain your options clearly, and stay closely involved when decisions get complicated.  Just as I did with my masonry company, I work with a select number of clients at a time, so every client gets my full attention.
